  1. I completely restored a Pantera back in the 90s, and I mean all the metal that was rusted. What people dont realize is that these bodies were assembled and before paint and primer they were stored in the yard unprotected. Some cars new at the Ford dealers already had serious rust problems. So you have a triple sandwiched unibody (in places) and a serious pain to restore. I probably spent 600+ hours in metal work alone and had to hand fabricate a lot of parts. It was a learning experience – LOL. I should have restored an old Ferrari.

    1. Also, I almost forgot. I was approached by a guy that wanted to trade my Pantera for his Mangusta and I am still kicking myself.

I will also add once again, that although I completely changed the Pantera AC system and got it running like it should and had good seats (the original 72 seats are awful) I just never really enjoyed driving it that much. The car I really wanted was a Pantera GT5S. That said, while I owned my white ’72 Pantera, I built a turbocharged Porsche 928 GTS knockoff from an older 928 body. IE I bought a GTS fiberglass kit and upgraded everything, lowered, S4 brakes, custom FI, wheels, new interior etc and that car was really nice to drive unless it was raining – LOL. At 12psi, that car would redline faster than I could shift. It was faster than my Pantera.

    3. @B.C. Gamingss Head out west and buy a rust free car. Will save you hundreds of hours and a lot of aggravation. Strip it to the shell, blast it and put it on a rotisserie. That is how I would start if I did another car.

    4. @Florida Scot My Husband worked on his Bosses Pantera yes they would over heat the front fans were not that great but there are better radiators for them now.

    5. ” 600+ hours in metal work alone”. Thanks for that. Not too many people talk about the hours it takes to restore a car. I met a guy who restored a greyhound bus, from the 40’s or something. He made it into an RV for himself. He claimed 5000 hours. I think most people who talk about how valuable these junk cars are have no idea what the actual hours invested are or would be to bring them back.

  3. Oboy, I think that Pantera has a Gale Banks twin turbo kit from the ’80s. I remember seeing one at a car show when I was a kid on a Camaro. With one turbo missing and one hanging by a thread, I’d guess the motor is grenaded.

    1. N Ferraro would’ve been a great handling car with those small turbos and mid engine it’s too bad they didn’t fix it

    2. @Omar Tinoco Windsor V8 mounts differently..if you go that route just stick a built 302 in it instead. less weight more power.

    1. I worked with a guy that had a 68 427 4sp convertible impala that was red with white interior and top. It got stolen but they found it years later in a police compound yard missing the drive train. His insurance company didn’t want to pay (this was years ago) to have it fixed so he took them to court and won. He had a new drive train installed and started driving it again. He passed years ago but his son still owns the car. I loved the shark gills the fenders had.

  4. Would you rather have one car, in cherry condition, that you drive and tinker on regularly, or a hundred wreaks wasting away in a field? I don’t understand hoarders.

    1. @craigseattle Possibly, but not selling these gems doesn’t help with the problems. There’s an old man on one of these barn finds with probably 100 cars, 50 of them pretty damn rare and he has a wife and actually gets the cars restored, just to let them sit again. Some people just can’t let go of anything. It really buggers the classic car market. I’d love to find a charger with a 440 6 pack for cheap, not gonna happen though because Jim in Syracuse has 20 of them sitting in a field rotting away. Makes me angry.

    2. 98% of those cars would have gone to the crusher, be gratefull he saved them, one day they will be sold and restored or be good parts.

    3. @Erwin Lommer Ive seen people hoard tuna cans thinking someday its going to be useful, just created an absolute garbage pit inside their house.
